Oftentimes I feel like mom’s are expected to be perfect. Mom’s are amazing but still human. Do you ever have those days where you just want to scream and pull your hair out (if the baby doesn’t get to it first)?!
Today was one of those days for me. The baby decided that today he didn’t want to take more than a 40 minute nap. Which wouldn’t be an issue if the lack of sleep didn’t cause him to have the emotional ups and downs of the Hulk. One minute he would be laughing like crazy and within minutes the screaming would ensue. His persistence is unmatched. I will say this little boy knows what he wants and you can move him to one room 600 times and he will laugh and continuously attempt the great escape as if the last 599 times meant nothing. If he wants the phone you are talking on, he will not stop until he finds a way. He will laugh as you hold it out of reach and somehow use his gumby legs with his monkey toes and karate kick it out of your hands.
That was just the morning. 3:30 pm hit and the older kiddo got off the bus. It was almost as if the three ringed circus unloaded with him. See the older one has ADHD and no matter how many times you try to keep him on track with homework he just has to know “what dog toy is the dog’s favorite”. Oh you don’t know? He will perform a 45 minute experiment to find out so that the world will no longer be in despair. Homework? He doesn’t have any, except the science paper that he has to finish, but it’s not homework. But if he doesn’t have it turned in tomorrow he gets a zero.
Add the two together and their favorite game is monkey-see, monkey-do. To which the latest favorite is who can scream the loudest. Followed by “does the baby still have dog food in his mouth?”. “Why do you have a lighter?” “No we aren’t experimenting with flames today, thank you.”
