Mom, paramedic, wife
Hello my name is Emily. I have two wonderful boys with quite a significant age gap of eleven years. I also work full time as a paramedic and my husband is a firefighter. Being a mom to two a decade apart and also working as a paramedic, I have developed a (not for everyone) sense of humor. I do not fit into any specific parenting label and I just do my own thing. Just like all moms I just want my kids to be happy and healthy!
When I had my first son times were different both in my life and the parenting world. The first time around I was 22 and pregnancy was pretty easy. So when my husband and I decided to have a baby eleven years later, I felt like a first time mom all over again. My increase in age and body weight was evident but I was taken by surprise with how many other things were different. Starting pregnancy with extreme nausea for twenty weeks, multiple scares and fatigue. Oh the fatigue hit so much harder the second time around. Once my second son was born the cluelessness just became more evident as so many things had changed. Baby led weaning? Sleep sacks? Sound machines? And what the hell was a crunchy mom? It was becoming alarmingly evident to me that I was in over my head.
Learning to be a parent to an infant again after 11 years is overwhelming. However, the second time around I have an amazing and supportive husband. Not only did he learn how to parent an infant for the first time but he helped me realize I wasn’t as ignorant as I thought. I have spent countless hours researching products, activities, and places. Attempting to not just get caught up in this new parenting era but also to find activities that would appease my curious infant while simultaneously attempting to not bore my eleven year old to death.
