Rainy days, or in the case of Texas, too hot of days, can cause boredom overload when the entire family is stuck inside. Being stuck indoors can cause cabin fever in both children and the overwhelmed parents. But fear not, there are so many indoor activities and games for all age levels! With a little bit of creativity and a child’s mindset you too can master the art of inside play. There are plenty of indoor activities and games to ensure everyone has fun!
Disclaimer, not all parents enjoy getting on the floor and playing with their children all day and that is totally fine. I am one of those parents who will play but have no desire to sit on the ground all day everyday. Besides how does one get anything done? Below is an on-going list of activities for all ages. Some activities that parents can join in on and others parents just supervise and/or setup!
Indoor Activities
- Build a Fort– With a little bit of imagination a fort can transport your child to a whole other world. Camping in the woods or an astronaut in space, all you need is a little imagination and some blankets.
- Arts and Crafts– Painting, coloring, and all sorts of crafts not only allow your child’s creative side out, but it also can help with dexterity. Most art projects can be messy but some of those messes are the most fun for your kid!
- Movie Day– Some snacks like candy and popcorn bundled in their own little trays, can transform a rainy day into a movie day.
Games
- Floor is Lava– Anytime someone yells “Lava” kids have 5 seconds to not have a body part touching the floor. If they do not make it in time they are out!
- Board Games– There are so many different board games out there but our family favorites are Clue and Unicorn (kid friendly version)!
- Card Games– Also with hundreds of different games. Some of our family favorites are Uno and Golf.
- Stuffed Animal Save– While this game seems silly it is my son’s favorite. We hit a stuffed animal back and forth without catching it or letting it hit the floor. If your hit is out of bounds or you miss it the other person gets a point!
Inside Away
- Mini-Golf– Who doesn’t like a game of mini-golf? Although great outdoor courses are everywhere, finding an indoor one allows you to play in any weather.
- Trampoline/Bounce Parks– Let’s face it, some days the weather does not care that your child is a ball of pent up energy. I find the best places for these days are the places where kids can jump and bounce for hours.
- Children’s Museums– With endless opportunities for fun and learning, children’s museums are always great for the whole family.
- Bowling- Does your family have a competitive spirit? Bowling is the perfect rainy day activity.
- Rock Climbing– For those older kids, rock climbing isn’t just fun but also challenging!
